Argentina is one of the few countries with an open-market economy that allows international oil and gas companies relatively free and open access to oil and gas exploration and development. Consequently, there are a number of foreign stakeholders in the Argentine E&P sector that range from large multinational corporations to smaller foreign independent oil and gas companies.

The major stakeholders in Argentina include Repsol-YPF, Apache Corporation, Petrobras and Chevron which collectively control over 75% of oil and gas production in Argentina. Total, Oxy, Shell and Marathon also have interests in Argentina while a number of junior oil and gas companies have also established operations in Argentina in recent years.
